What we are doing

2025: 10 years of focus

“The Ranges Cultural Centre” volunteer group is now 10 years old.

Evolving from beginnings as “The Geburrh Centre”, to the “Woodend Community & Cultural Centre”, we reflect the strong interest in our community for the redevelopment of the community centre and library precinct in the township of Woodend.

Our aim is to replace aging Council infrastructure and provide the Macedon Ranges with a significant landmark public space.

We also envision that this development should be facilitated to serve a wider community as a regional arts and cultural centre, as there are no comparable facilities in this part of Victoria.

In the heart of Woodend

The project site is located at the corner of High Street (formerly the Calder Highway) and Forest Street, at the northern end of the Woodend shops and on the east-west tourist route between Hanging Rock and Daylesford.

It also sits within the Five Mile Creek recreational area with its walking trails, sporting facilities, parkland areas, and current visitor information centre. It is within walking distance of the Woodend Railway Station.

Investing in the future

Once completed, the precinct will be more attractive for tourists and locals alike with its multiple offerings of a new visitor information centre, a library as a contemporary information and learning centre, the provision for a multipurpose auditorium and performance space,  weather protection and landscaping for monthly farmers and craft markets, and new spaces for meetings, exhibitions, special events, community gatherings and the like.

The architectural design features a transparent space with references to Woodend’s ‘timber town’ history, encompassing the latest technology and sustainable design, and providing opportunities to incorporate indigenous art.
